IPv6 is the latest version of the Internet Protocol that identifies devices on the Internet to locate them. The earlier version, IPv4, uses a 32-bit addressing scheme to support 4.3 billion devices, considered to be sufficient. However, with the expansion of the Internet, personal computers, smart phones, and Internet-connected devices, it shows that the world needs more addresses.
The IPv6 protocol can manage packets more efficiently, improve performance and increase security. It allows Internet service providers to reduce the size of routing tables, making them more hierarchical.
